BYCC 1

The first event of CARS calendar year started off with a cloud over over the Arima Race Club car park. Before the first tyre even touched the track, nature validated her condition. However, this didn’t last long as it was chased away by the wind from the almost 40 solodex drivers that turned out for this BYCC. The rain would not stop this event though as Solodex BYCC 1 2009 was now in full swing.

The course for the day was to be the template for all future BYCC courses, following the TTKA’s karting track in the reverse direction. The event saw a good mixture of vehicles and drivers new and old. Some of the regulars were not present but the numbers were made up by a few Novice drivers eager to get their introduction to the sport. Most used this event as a pre-competition testing ground for their skills and vehicles for the upcoming Solodex 1, slated for February 1st 2009.

New to the event was the introduction of new rules and a classification determining point system. Amongst the new rules was the mandatory use of helmets by all drivers and passengers. A few got to practice with the new headgear on and its effects on performance driving and to test the driver’s ability to keep their heads from banging into the door post!

Another new rule change was the bumping of cars using Victor tyres into the next higher class. This caused some cars that normally would have been fitted with racing compound tyres to be  fitted with street tyres, presumably testing the setup and getting used to the changed handling characteristics before the competition begins. How this fared with those drivers, we will only know on competition day.

Although this was not a competition event, a lot of the drivers treated it as such, with Jodi, Barry, Devi, Ryan Pinheiro and Ryan Ramsaran all trying to make the fastest time of the day.  All eyes were on Jodi however, when he finally came out with the monster Evo, (and his racing tyres) but it wasn’t to be his day.  Tyre trouble saw him not able to post his usual fastest time of the day, but we all know he could have and we look forward to seeing this competition continue into the 2009 championship series.

All in all, the entire event was a great success with many coming away with a thirst for more. Soon the competition year begins and it seems that it will be an interesting one. See you all on 1st Feb at ARC for what promises to be the start of an exciting year of solodex.
