Solodex 6
12th
November 2006
Pictures up soon
The event that all Solodexers had been waiting for had arrived, Solodex VI. This event was to be the grand finale for the Championship season for 2006. The final position of the competitors in their respective clases would depend on how they did in this event, some more so than others. The event was also to be the backdrop for the Solodex Shootout, to determine the overall winner of the Solodex Championship.
The track layout used was almost identical to that used at the last Championship event, Solodex V, Night Dex. However, the automotive Gods saw that no one was allowed to get too accustomed to the course as the weather varied through the entire day, changing its nature almost constantly.
Competing in the novice class this event were five competitors, three of them being in their debut competition. New to this class were David Jaggernauth in his Suzuki Swift, Alanna Ramjattan in her Nissan Almera and Geneveive Singh in her Mitsubishi Mirage. The introduction of the two female competitors brings the total of females presently competing in Solodex to three. We look forward to seeing them compete next year for the best female driver title. Regular Novices Narend Sooknarine in his Third Gen Mazda RX7and Vaughn Callender representing Euros with his Rover 216 we also present. Both of these competitors will be moving to their respective classes in the 2007 championship. Narend had no problem showing us how a high powered rear wheel drive car should be driven as he easily drifted into first place with a best time of 92.213. Vaughn exhibited his experience and skill producing a best time of 97.011, falling a little more than four seconds behind first place. Geneveive clearly knew how to handle the Mirage on this course as she brought in a best time of 103.507, bringing her into third place with much ease considering that this was her first event. Alanna experienced some difficulty navigating from the start, and understandably so as a solodex course to a new driver may seem daunting at first. She placed fourth with a best time of 131.974.
David Jaggernauth displayed some good driving skills but had problems navigating the course just as Alanna had, putting him into fifth place with a dnf end result.
The regular competitors of the GS class were all there this time around. Returning were Kevin Singh in his MG B GT, Sanjay Singh in his Nissan Sunny, Alan Rajkumar-Maharaj in his RWD Mitsubishi Lancer and Kurt Pyke in his Vauxhall Viva/Nissan120Y/Ford Cortina/?. Also present was Shane Ferriera in his Proton sedan. Kevin schooled the old School regulars in his older school car. The little car from Morris Garages carried him into first place with a best time of 98.579. Sanjay followed very closely in second place, leaving only a little over a second in time between his best time and Kevin’s with a final best of 99.691. Alan, to the surprise of some of the competitors, experimented with the now popular Kumho Ecsta racing tires on the rear of his car. Not much of his usual sideways action was shown as he came into third place with a best time of 105.468. Shane was close behind Alan, less than a second in fact as he produced a best time of 105.998 bringing him fourth place. Kurt Pike got fifth position with a best time of 124.466 with what is arguably the most modified car in Solodex at this present time.
The HS class may have well been called the “Wagon class” as that is what the entire class consisted of this time around. Present were Scott Dopson in the borrowed “casper” Toyota Wagon, Karl Winchester in his Nissan Y10 Wingroad, and Kerwyn Charles in his Nissan Y11 Wingroad. Karl, the new head of solodex for the 2007 season won his class with a best time of 93.310 with his “bought on a Wednesday” Y10. Kerwyn in the next generation of Wingroad fell almost 2 seconds behind Karl. Scott in the infamous Casper, minus booo(st) flew in for a best time of 95.829.
The ES class, which is arguably the most debated class of cars saw the usual Amir Hosein in his “Ignorant” Suzuki Ignis, Ryan Ramsaran in his Honda Civic Hatch and Karen Pinheiro in her Peugeot 306 XT. They were also joined by Nishard Mohammed in his Honda Del Sol. The Competition was heated as usual with Ryan squeezing past into first place with a best time of 88.577. Amir, experimenting with Racing compounds for the first time for one of his runs managed to come in second with a best time of 89.649.
Karen, whose skill behind the wheel always impresses brought in a best time of 93.457 bringing her into third place. Nishard in his relatively rare Honda brought in a best time of 100.276.
In SS were Kirk Ho Hing in Casper, the friendly Toyota wagon and James Harris in his rally prepped Nissan Sentra b13. The driving style of these two drivers was evident as Kirk showed his usual precise style with a little back end action while James had a more aggressive style, perhaps breed in the rally fields. Kirk managed to come out on top however, bringing in a best time of 91.985. James time was just 0.139 of a second behind with his best being 92.124.
There were Mitsubishi Evo 6s a plenty in the EP class of this competition, three of them to be exact with a Volkswagen Golf GTI thrown into the arena. Competing in their Evo 6’s were Barry Mykoo, Devi Nath and Mikhail Ramadhar. Ryan Pinheiro took up the challenge in his Golf GTI. In this Event the Euro driver, Ryan, showed some three wheel action and ultimately brought home first place with a best time of 81.415. Seasoned Veteran Barry came in for a second close place with a best time of 82.600. Devi showed his driving experience with his Mitsubishi machine, skillfully negotiating the tight course, bringing in a best time of 84.324. Mikhail, who was driving his Mitsubishi for the first time in competition, brought in a best time of 84.989.
Next was the showdown, the final race to end all for the year. The drivers took turns driving once around the course with 2 different cars in turn, with the winner determined by the least combined times. This was to be a show of pure driver skill as all other factors were now regularized. Many thanks to Alanna for loaning us her new Almera and Asjmal Mustapha for the Castrol sponsored B13 Circuit car. Competition was tight with Ryan Ramasaran doing the fastest time in the B13 over Kerwyn by just 0.097 seconds while Kirk blew away the competition in the Almera beating Kerwyn into second place by a whopping 2.812 seconds. Unfortunately Kirk missed a gate in the B13 giving him a DNF and costing him the overall championship. Great driving Kirk, and we all know you are the one to beat next year. When the dust settled, Ryan Ramsaran won over Kerwyn by just 0.081 seconds followed by Amir, RyanP, Karl, Kevin and Kirk. So ended the Championship season for 2006. All drivers showed exceptional talent this year and we eagerly anticipate your return in the 2007 Season.
