Solodex IV 2007
With the 2007 Solodex season now firmly past the halfway mark, things are getting interesting. Already we are seeing some of last year’s class champions preparing to relinquish their thrones, and hiding their championship trophies. Another new trend is the ever growing number of spectators and clubs in attendance. The Nissan and Subaru clubs put on impressive displays. By midday, cars were lined up outside the venue, trying to get in. A note to the wise, COME EARLY!
One class that is guaranteed to have a new class champion every year is the NE Novice class. NE is fast becoming the steamroller class, with an astounding 17 entrants, dwarfing the rest of the field! Never a dull moment, NE saw another new winner, this time Rico Charran, in his Subaru Impreza. Second place was taken by another Impreza, this time piloted by Mark Chung. Samir Syne rounded off the top three in his Honda Civic. The NE class saw everything from Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions to the very popular blue B11 Sunny of Tamara Dindial. Tamara looks set to take the class championship, proving once again that consistency is key to success.
The big upset of the day was veteran Shaun Mohammed’s surprising win over fellow veteran Wayne Hutchinson in the ES. After experimenting with tyre combinations, Shaun took his home-built Locost Seven to victory, 0.4 seconds ahead of Wayne.
The HS class was without Karl Winchester this time around, and he was missed. Not so much by Scott Dopson though, who asserted himself with a time of 85.985. Scott’s time also bested the faster ES and ESP classes! ESP was won by Vishnu Charran in his B14 Sentra, over crowd favorite, Amir Hosein in his Suzuki Ignis.
The GS class saw Sanjay Singh continuing his dominance of the class. With three wins in four races, he is well placed to take the championship away from Kevin Singh. The story of the day however was Kirk Pyke, earning a well deserved second place, proving once again that GS is one of the better balanced classes. Kirk was later heard commenting “I never knew CARS gave out trophies…………..”
With Narend Sooknarine the lone SS entrant this time around, all eyes were on the EP class, to see the battle of the big guns. The three way battle among Ryan Pinheiro, Barry Mykoo and Devi Nath saw them finishing in that order, Ryan in good stead to take the title at the end of the year. Ryan also again took honours for fastest time of the day with 77.17 seconds, almost a full second ahead of Barry.
After the traditional prize giving ceremony, 34 cars lined up for fun runs. The tyre Gods must have been smiling, as regulars and newcomers alike happily smoked literally thousands of dollars worth of tyres away, late into the evening. As the sun set on yet another successful event, everyone was already planning strategies for Solodex V.
Keep watching for further action………….. |
