Proper
timing is essential to rallying successfully. The following
method shows how to determine if you are early or late during
a rally. Before the start, synchronize your Clock Time to
the official rally time posted by the start marshal. If possible,
you should synchronize all the way down to the seconds.
- Normally, your Start Time will be your car's number added
to the official start time of the rally.
- At the starting point, zero your car's Tripmeter or record
the Odometer reading.
- Use the Average Speed given on your route sheet to calculate
the Timing Factor as follows :
Timing Factor = 60 / Average Speed
T his represents the number of minutes it would take you
to travel each kilometer at the given Average Speed.
- To determine if you are running Early or Late during
the rally:
Example
- You are car #12 in a rally that started at 10:00 am.
- At the start, your Odometer reading was 12345.6 km.
- The Average Speed given on the Route Sheet is 20 kph.
- Your Odometer now reads 12354.5 km and your Clock Time
is now 10:40 am, are you early or late?
Solution:
- Your Start Time is : 10:00 am + 12 = 10:12 am
- Timing Factor = 60/20 = 3 minutes per kilometer.
- Elapsed Distance is: 12354.5 - 12345.6 = 8.9 km
- The Elapsed Time is: 8.9 x 3 = 26.7 min Note: Elapsed
Times are rounded down to the minute.
- The Calculated Time is: 10:12 + 26 = 10:38 am
- Since Clock Time is 10:40 am, you are late by 2 minutes.
